Create original works as a means of personal or group expression Language Obj: SWBAT Use content vocabulary correctly Candy is Dandy You are doing research for the M&M’S Candy Company. Consumers have been critical of the company, complaining that there are too many of a particular color of M&M’s in the bags. Your task is to create a spreadsheet that shows the number of each color of M&M’s and the total number of M&M’S in a package, and to determine as a class if there are indeed too many of a particular color of M&M’s. Also as a class I would like to discuss why one color is favored over another, or why are there more blue ones and less yellow ones if that is the case. Key terms: merge, fill, boarders, labeling, pie chart, column chart First thing, in your group count the number of each color of M&M'S and write then down. When you show me that you have them written down you can divide them as evenly as possible and eat them. Spreadsheet 1. Start with a header with your first and last name. 2. Create a page title using word art (Candy is Dandy) and set it in Column A-E no lower than Row 4. 3. Place the information from your bag in a data table. Center all data. Top of table should be merged in Column B and C, Row 5. Make the title, (M&M’S) size 20, Times New Roman font and the rest of the table size 16 Times New Roman. Find this on the Home tab. Cell B6 should be the word color and C6 should be the # sign. Use the fill feature to put grey in the color and # (number) section of your table. To fill highlight the area needed and right click, select fill and then select one of the grey shades to fill. After typing in your labels (colors) and entering your value data ( number of M&M’S of each color) place a heavy boarder on the outside of your table and a lighter boarder on the inside, see the example. Highlight the table and right click, select format cells and then boarder and select the style needed. Once you have created your chart you may eat your M&M’S. 4. Create a pie graph under your data chart by selecting everything but the total number of M&M’s, include the title. Pie chart must have the number of M&M’s. Highlight and copy desired area and select pie from the charts menu on the Insert tab. Select a pie chart and then you should be able to paste your data as a pie chart. Right click on pie chart and select add data labels. To add a percentage you can click again on the pie and select format data labels and select percentage. Finally select each cell of the pie and right click and select fill. Make a solid fill with the matching color. Each piece of the pie must be colored correctly. 5. Create a column chart and place it under the pie chart. Column chart must have everything like the pie chart except the percentages. 6. Spell check, and print preview before you print. If items are selected that is all that will show in print preview. You will need to resize your graphs/charts. Remember print only one page! At the end we will poll the class to see if there is one color that prevalent.
